The team of the Magdeburg Digital Brain Bank aims to transfer the well-know Magdeburg Brain Bank (founded by Bernhard Bogerts) into a digital form, allowing new discoveries in the field of neuropsychiatric research. In terms of resolution and the diversity of possible target structures, microscopy still is unparalleled. We now strive to make this vast and valuable body of material eligible for modern evaluation methods (e.g. image analysis and high-performance computing, machine learning).
A special interest of our group is the pathobiology behind the diseases of the psychosis spectrum (schizophrenia) to mood disorders (bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder), while focusing on immunological aspects and potentially disease-related alterations.
The Magdeburg Digital Brain Bank is located at the research department of the Magdeburg University Hospital for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (acting director: Johann Steiner) and is part of the Translational Psychiatry Department and SASLab (head: Johann Steiner). The Project is made possible by funding by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – Project-ID 97850925 – SFB 854.
